How valley failure leads to water damage

A roof valley that is corroded, cracked, undersized or incorrectly installed allows water to back up beneath the adjacent tiles rather than being channelled cleanly to the gutter. In Albury and Wodonga's winter rain events, valleys that are partially blocked by debris or have degraded over time fail to handle rainfall volume. The water that enters beneath tiles follows the sarking or rafter surface to the lowest accessible point before dripping — which is why valley-related leaks often appear well away from the actual failure point. Valley replacement and tile reinstatement

Valley replacement requires removing tiles on both sides of the valley to access the failed material. These tiles must be handled carefully to preserve them for reinstatement — or replaced if any are found to be damaged during removal. The new valley is installed, the profile checked for adequate drainage width, and tiles are relaid correctly with appropriate pointing at the valley-tile interface.
